They ran for commission seat knowing that this was part time and the salary that came with the job.
KIRK Menendez, Ariel Fernandez and Melissa Castro al only care about them selves, NOT for the residents of the City of Coral Gables.
Had the cared a LITTLE, JUST a little, they would have worked to get the millage rate lowered, voted for the November election change. Instead went behind everyone's back , work behind the scenes, and not even put their raises on the agenda for the day.
They should find a JOB that fits their qualifications....Not the City commission.
What have the 2 newest done for the City, 6 months and all you can say is secretly give themselves a raise, with expenses.
Never thought of those residents that are LOW INCOME, and strive to keep their homes that they have lived in all their lives, Recession coming , prices of food, gasoline through the roof, let alone cannot even go out to a restaurant, like the 3 stooges in the commission.
I hope and pray , somehow we can get them out, and put some Coral Gables loving resident in their place , that will work for the City and it Residents.
Shame on all 3 KM, AF, MC. Please resign if you cannot handle the job you begged for residents vote.
If the residents think they deserve a full time salary, then there should be no outside employment permitted. Other cities are currently exploring this option.
Activist politicians like Ariel and Melissa ( Kirk is just riding the wave ) have an emotional rhetoric to capture the attention and the hearts of the people. Unfortunately, they do it only to pocket their money. They are just swindlers.
Who is the author of these posts? One must question these posts as they are anonymous. What do you have to hide? Are you being paid to write these? At any rate, the commissioners work part time only in theory. It’s a full-time job in practice. If you want to attract talent and candidates from different sectors and backgrounds then this raise is necessary.
Brett- when one looks at the City organization structure, the residents are at the top. The Commission answers to us. Let’s start there and forget about debating whether it’s deserved. It should have been discussed. Residents should have provided input and Commission should have provided supporting documentation as to why they deserved it. When any normal person asks for a raise, they have to justify their value.
No wonder they didn’t want a millage reduction, they needed to fund their raises after 5 months in office.
What good have you brought the community, Mr. Gillis? Aside from portraying yourself as the “hero” of historic preservation, your only success thus far has been riding the coat-tails of Melissa and Ariel. Congratulations, you finally made it to Historic Preservation. You can finally put your skills as a political justice warrior to the test. While you’re at it, maybe reconsider your strategy. No one’s impressed.
Yep, the champion of historic preservation, who lived in a historic property and while calling for historic designations of [properties throughout the City, never took the initiative on his. Lo and behold, he no longer owns the property and it is now up for designation. You can't make this up!
These 3 MUST go.
Yes this is thievery as you say.

Disgusted with the 3.

My apologies Mr or Ms Aesops but my dry sense of humor is taking over.
Ariel’s ‘NOTES TO SELF’
Day 1 Fire City Manager
Day 2 Take tons of selfies
Day 3 to 99 Try and look busy. Where are those giant scissors for ribbon cutting!
Day 100 ZERO LEGISLATION
Day 101 Give myself a HUGE pay raise! YEAH… that’ll make them respect me!

I’ve been waiting for this! This is spot on. I’m still sick to my stomach over it.
