I completely disagree. I believe freezing the budget of any department will eventually end up hurting the resident. I’ve lived here long enough to see these changes. One can no longer call a department and expect anyone to answer the phone. Are they short staffed? I really don’t care. I expect service and if that means hiring more people then do it. City has been downgraded. Besides, what’s my mom going to do with $27.00? Isn’t that the typical resident that the city wants to help? What am I going to do with $112.00 with my multi family? That doesn’t even cover my local business tax! This reduction will go down in the books as neither remembered or appreciated. If the bottom line is to punish the other side for wanting to hire, then as a resident I am caught in the middle. The numbers are insignificant and do not work. Collectively, these monies make much more of an impact. The lines have been drawn in this City, it’s exhausting to play for one team or the other. I’m not a joiner. I think for myself and reducing the millage makes ZERO sense when our Millage Rate is already low. It’s a shame we do not have a commission that can work cohesively.

I liked most of the article.

In October 2022, when the Gables Insider article referenced was published, had Lago and Ariel broke up yet? Did Lago pay Ariel to write the article about taxes you referenced? Lago has wanted the millage reduced for a long time. Anything written by Ariel before Lago and Ariel broke up has to be assumed it was Lago paid propaganda. So no, I’m not surprised Ariel wrote it.

This is all personal. Residents and Staff caught in the middle.

So either Ariel didn't believe it but wrote it just to please Lago who was paying him, or he did believe it and has suddenly changed his mind bc it's not so easy to give yourself raises and cut the milleage rate....either one, not a good look.
