"But That Takes Due Process..."

This was just sent to me. I am passing it along in case you were wondering how the recall was going. This resident deserves a medal:

Alexa, show me defamation:

• “This is a recall. It’s for the mayor. Essentially he was caught money laundering $640,000.”

• “It was a commercial real-estate fraud.”

• “He’s not paying money on any of that money…it’s a piece of grass and he [Lago] got $35 million for that piece of grass!”

• “All of that money got laundered."

• “The FBI is currently investigating him.”

In the event you’re inclined to simply shrug this off as “just politics,” maybe try a little thought experiment: replace the claim “got caught money laundering” with “got caught molesting children.” For good measure, go ahead and replace “the mayor” with “your son/husband/father.”

Now how would you feel if I told you that concepts like evidence and due process were for the birds? What if I just shrugged and said, “hey, if the shoe fits…”?

All the news that’s fit to print

This got me thinking: since our beat reporters at the Miami Herald like to write about the mayor of Coral Gables and Rishi Kapoor—a lot—do you think they’d be interested in a story about a recall effort whose non-resident canvassers are telling actual residents that the mayor of Coral Gables was caught laundering money and committing real-estate fraud and pocketing $35 million from Rishi Kapoor?

Because that’s certainly news to me.

And I wonder what they think about End the Corruption disingenuously using the Herald’s coverage as a platform for the recall, and the fact that canvassers are running around town with laminated copies of Herald articles while citing the paper as their primary source of information on all the mayor’s supposedly $uper $hady deals:
